ABOUT ME

Daniel began his musical training on the classical violin at the age of 8. When he became a teenager, bored of playing the same old Mozart etudes again and again, he shifted his interest to the upcoming electronic sounds of synthpop and wave, strongly influenced by bands like Depeche Mode, Sisters of Mercy, and the typical 80s synth sounds. In the early '90s, everything changed. After his first encounter with house and techno he was immediately hooked on the sound and fell in love with this new and fresh music. Quickly he started buying records, mixing as a bedroom DJ, and playing at some small private places. In 1993 he played his first real DJ set on a big stage at the legendary Hanomag halls in Hannover. Together with Tobi a.o. he founded the hard trance act Paraphonatic in 1994, releasing their first vinyl on Wizard Records in 1995 (Paraphonatic Reincarnation). Throughout the '90s he frequently played live sets with Paraphonatic and DJ sets as Daniel den Ham at raves and clubs mainly in the north of Germany and became a resident at Club Nachtschicht. Then he stepped back and took a creative break for more than two decades, played his last DJ set at Club 0511 in 1999, and his last Paraphonatic live show in 2000 at the Airport Rave in Hildesheim. But his love and passion for electronic music remained. In 2020, enthusiastic about the new digital possibilities of modern music production, he regrouped with his old friends at Klangwerk Studios for a Paraphonatic relaunch. Besides Paraphonatic, today he focuses on his solo project Daniel den Ham and on associated collaborations, mainly with Andray and Tobi a.o. His personal style and taste have changed significantly over the years. While contemporary electronic music typically thrives on short tracks with heavy drops, he takes a completely different approach. Instead of spectacular drops, he prefers tracks that stay in the flow—tracks that blend seamlessly into sets rather than grabbing attention with dramatic effects. Somewhere between deep house and minimal techno, he loves long arrangements that evolve slowly, with a focus on the small details. Tracks that demand patience from the listener yet reward them if they listen carefully: percussive grooves with sparse melodies, sometimes contemplative, sometimes melancholic, sometimes groovy—always emotional.
